Volkswagen is known as one of the biggest automobile giants in the world and this company has made forays into the Indian automobile market. It now plants to gain entry into the mass market section through release of its taxi Volkswagen Caddy. This car is expected to be available in the Indian market sometime in 2010.

The Volkswagen Caddy will be available with 1968cc water cooled inline diesel engine. This engine will be capable of delivering power of 69 bhp at 4200 rpm along with peak torque of 140 Nm at 2200 rpm. The length of the car is 4405mm and its width is 1794mm while its height is 1833mm. The car is able to reach top speed of 132 km/hr.

The Volkswagen caddy review reflects that the car has McPherson strut front suspension along with dual leaf spring rear suspension. This ensures that the car can deliver good performance and crisp handling along with a smooth ride.

The car has power steering along with front disk and rear drum brake system. The turning circle of the car is 11.10 metres and it has 6 manual gears. The ground clearance of the car is 176mm and its kerb weight is 1465 kgs.

It is expected that the car will be able to deliver mileage of 7.7 km/litre in the city while the mileage on the highway is expected to be 9.4 km/litre.

The cabin area of the car is well appointed and functions are displayed well and can be accessed easily. The rear doors are of sliding kind and this ensures that people are able to access and exit the car with ease. The car has remote central locking feature and the steering wheel can be adjusted for reach and rake. The car has air conditioner without climate control feature and the car also has music system. The additional cabin storage includes glovebox, four cup holders, dashboard top trays etc.

The safety features in the car include driver’s side airbag along with front passenger and side airbags. The car has antilock brake system along with electronic stabilisation program. However it is not yet clear how many of the features will be made available when the car enters the Indian market.

The price of the car is expected to be around Rs 12.50 lakhs. The car will be available in four design variations and these include Caddy, Caddy Maxi, Caddy Maxi Life and Caddy Maxi Window Van.

The exterior colors in which the car will be available are not known as yet.
